You want to know how one can keep a beard looking great? then read on. If you’ve been struggling with patchiness, spots, and inconsistent growth, it’s probably because you’re neglecting this vital step.
Sleep is necessary as a great beard growth practice. This comes after many research that prove sleep deprivation decreases the beard hair growth in man. Good night time beard routine are also vital.
Why Does My Beard Suffer at Night?
If you have ever woken up in the morning with a beard that is less than perfect, you are not alone. Many men suffer from what is known as “beard bed head.” This is when your beard becomes frizzy, tangled, or otherwise less than ideal overnight.
Though sleep is important we still need to know that certain habits and practices can cause harm to our beards. Some of these practices are during our sleep time which when corrected we could save ourselves the “Bed head effect“.
There are a few reasons why this happens. First, your pillowcase can cause friction that leads to beard bed head. Second, you may be sleeping on your stomach or side, which can cause your beard to become matted.
And third, your body’s natural oils can build up on your beard overnight, leading to a less than desirable look in the morning. Fortunately, there are a few things you can do to combat beard bed head.
Night Time Beard Routine
The night time beard routine is a set of steps that allow you to get the most out of your beard. It’s not just about growing your facial hair, it’s also about conditioning and caring for it so that it looks its best.
There are two ways to caring for your beard: that is if you shower before or if you do not shower before sleeping. These alternatives is what men do almost every night therefore it’s important to cater for both variables.
If You Do Not Shower
If you do not shower at night, you don’t have to wet your beard. You don’t have to remove any of the products throughout the day. The key thing with beard products is they absorb. They do not evaporate.
So they’re gonna be absorbed into your skin and into your beard. And for nighttime, for me is strictly nourishing the beard. So if you wanna nourish the beard, leave those great quality products in that you already have.
Now add some beard butter to the hair to really lock in that hydration overnight. So when you wake up, it’s more manageable and it’s ready for that morning time shower. So that’s the easy way to start, when you done just go to bed.
If You Shower
- So step one, towel dry to about 90% and comb. You wanna leave a little bit of water in your beard to help the product get through your beard easier, but you don’t have a ton of saturation because oil and water do not mix.
- Step number two, add oil and comb. I’m gonna go with Honest Amish beard oil. Once you have dried that beard and combed through it then take a little bit about a half drop’s worth all and place it into your hands. Work it to the skin, especially for the night. Spend more time on applying that oil and applying it evenly.
- The next step is a super simple step. Wait atleast five minutes. Let that oil absorb into your skin and into the pores of the hairs. What that’s gonna allow is the butter that you’re gonna add in a little bit, to be able to get into your hair and not just sit on the outside, because that oil’s completely blocking it off. So wait at least five minutes after applying beard oil.
- Apply beard butter. Though it may get to the skin, the main purpose for beard butter or beard cream is for the hair. So come up underneath, make sure you’re getting your neck, treating that well, your neck is important for that depth and density of your beard. If you’re not treating your neck properly, you’re probably gonna end up with a thinner beard than you genetically should. So get that butter all throughout the beard, get it in there, nicely with the fingertips. Really get down into those areas where it likes to be the thickest and the densest. Comb through as you apply it. Spread out that product, get rid of any knots in this one. We’re really looking just to comb through the hair to make sure it’s all even and ready for bed.
- After all this is done you are good to sleep. Off course don’t forget the satin silk pillowcase or beard durag that help a long way.
